Announcements & Updates

The Trustees, Directors, Life Members, Staff and extended family of The Aurora Group are incredibly saddened by the recent passing of Kevin John Golding

Kevin was a Trustee of the Aurora Group and one of our nine founders back in 1999. Kevin played a huge role in creating Aurora, and we wouldn't be what we are today without him. Not only was Kevin one of our trustees, he was responsible for establishing Aurora’s original legal structure - a mammoth task for any volunteer, let alone one as busy as Kevin.

In addition to all of the tremendous work Kevin did for The Aurora Group, he worked tirelessly for the NSW LGBTIQ+ and HIV/AIDS communities for over 40 years . Kevin played a key role in developing the foundations of ACON, he then worked at the Australia Council before his retirement while simultaneously working with the DIVA Awards serving as one of their longest Directors.

While (between Aurora, ACON and DIVA) this may have been ample involvement and support for many, it was not for Kevin, who also contributed to the Star Observer and Mardi Gras, as a true crusader for our communities.

Kevin was not only extraordinarily giving, he was incredibly smart, magnificently passionate, and fantastically proud in all the work that he did. He became a mentor to many over the years, sharing his wealth of knowledge through guidance and support.

While we are incredibly sad for the loss of our friend, mentor, supporter, and founder we know that his work will not be forgotten as it lives on through the monumental impact he has had in shaping the NSW LGBTIQ+ and HIV/AIDS community, and its achievements. Through his passing, we remember and pay tribute to all of Kevin’s contributions and achievements.

From everyone at The Aurora Group, we wish to extend our deepest sympathies to Kevin’s family, friends, and all the hearts he has touched along the way. Kevin was truly Aurora family, and we will miss him very dearly.
